Honeywell Traffic Surveillance System Certified For A330 and A340

Honeywell has announced that it has received FAA certification for its TPA-100A traffic surveillance system for the Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft.

“Honeywell’s TPA-100A adds surveillance capability to Honeywell’s Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), tracking aircraft to 100 nautical miles away while receiving information from even greater distances,” said Chad Cundiff, Director, Airbus Business Team, Commercial Electronic Systems Sales and Marketing. “We designed this traffic surveillance system based on input from our customers. It provides increased awareness to the flight crew.”

It is 32 percent lighter than TCAS systems and occupies less volume in the aircraft avionics bay. The TPA-100A incorporates terrain data to provide separation from both terrain and other aircraft.

The system was certified on long-range and single aisle aircraft models.

It displays positive identification of other aircraft even at long ranges. The TPA-100A supports Mode S-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) capability. ADS-B provides for aircraft to transmit their position to other nearby aircraft to further enhance traffic avoidance.

To date, 14 airlines have selected the TPA-100A for their Airbus aircraft.
