British Widow Sues MoD Over Fatal Mishap

Accuses RAF Helicopter Of Flying Too Close To Landing Cessna

A mother of two from Highgate, England, is suing the UK's Ministry of Defense, blaming the RAF for her husband's death in June, 2001.

Julia Paton and her daughters were injured in the mishap. Her husband, Hugh, died nine days later.

In her suit, Ms. Paton claims an RAF Sea King helicopter was flying too close to the active runway as her family's Cessna was landing. The downwash from the rotors forced the landing aircraft to nosedive onto the runway.

The RAF says its helicopter had nothing to do with the Paton mishap. Trial is set for October, but the judge says he hopes both sides will settle before the case is heard.
