Delta Sick-Out

Were They Sick, On Strike Or Simply Home For The Holidays?

Why did so many Delta flight attendants call in sick Christmas day? More than 30 flights were cancelled because there simply weren't enough of them to go around.

Was it a job action? At least on the surface, that doesn't seem likely. Delta's flight attendants don't belong to any union.

Was it the flu? Perhaps, but if so, why did it strike only Delta?

The situation returned to normal on Friday. Flight attendant Andrea Taylor, who tried but failed to unionize her comrades, says it was a sort of sick out. She said they just wanted to get their sick days in before the number of sick days is curtailed next year.

Delta refused to say how it made up for the lack of cabin attendants.
