Helicopter Crews Uninjured in San Diego Mid-Air Collision

Seahawk and Blackhawk Land Safely

Two helicopters—a U.S. Navy MH-60R Seahawk and a privately owned UH-60A Firehawk used by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) to fight fires—suffered a mid-air collision over Brown Field (SDM) in San Diego's Otay Mesa neighborhood. The incident occurred Tuesday, 22 November 2022 at approximately 17:50 PST. Both aircraft and the entirety of their combined five crew-members—by dint of a baffling surfeit of good fortune—landed safely.

North Carolina News Helicopter Accident Claims Two Lives

WBTV Personnel Mourn Meteorologist and Pilot

Two people lost their lives when a news helicopter operated by WBTV—a North Carolina CBS affiliate television station—went down approximately six-nautical-miles southwest of Charlotte near the intersection of Interstate 77 and Nations Ford Road. Local police report no street-vehicles were involved in the accident. The downed aircraft, a 1999 Robinson R44 (N7094J) known colloquially as Sky3, was owned by Metro Networks Communications Inc. of San Antonio, Texas.

USAF KC-46 Sets Endurance Record

New Hampshire to New Hampshire by way of Guam

In November 2022, a KC-46 Pegasus crew flew a 36-hour non-stop mission spanning more than 13,903-nautical-miles. The aircraft departed Pease Air National Guard Base, New Hampshire and traveled west over the continental United States, then on to Hawaii and Guam before reversing course and retracing its path to New Hampshire. The flight stands as the longest Air Mobility Command (AMC) mission to date.

Avfuel Expands Sustainable Fuel in Colorado

Atlantic Aviation Set for Distribution at KASE, KMTJ, KHDN, and KRIL

Avfuel and Atlantic Aviation have built on their existing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) agreement to provide inventory at a handful of Colorado facilities. The duo has been stocking Neste's MY SAF fuel product at Atlantic’s Aspen facility (KASE) since the spring of 2021, and the recent addition will expand that supply to Atlantic’s Montrose (KMTJ), Hayden/Steamboat (KHDN) and Aspen/Rifle (KRIL) FBOs. Neste - not to be confused with the cookie manufacturer Nestlé - says its MY SAF boasts one of the highest average blend ratios available in business aviation, about 30:70 SAF to petroleum jet fuel.

Unable To Reach The Nearest Airport, A Field Was Selected For A Forced Landing

On November 13, 2022, about 0950 central standard time, a Cessna 152 airplane, N222UM, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Manchester, Michigan. The flight instructor and student pilot were uninjured. The flight was being operated as a 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The flight instructor stated that while in cruise flight with the engine rpm about 2,400 he “felt the power drop.” He then noticed the rpm decrease to about 1,300.

"Tonight, an MH-60R Seahawk helicopter attached to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41 made an emergency landing at Brown Field in San Diego after experiencing a collision with a helicopter assigned to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection during a flight for a night training event. Both aircraft landed safely and there were no injuries to personnel.
