Gulfstream G700 Sets International City-Pair Speed Records

Test Aircraft Connects Savannah, Doha and Paris

The Gulfstream G700, set its first ever city-pair speed records from Savannah to Doha, Qatar, and then from Doha to Paris. The G700 is the largest in the Gulfstream’s fleet. The record breaking flight connected Savannah to Doha, a distance of 6,711 nautical miles, at an average speed of Mach 0.88 in 13 hours and 16 minutes, according to the company. The aircraft then set another city-pair record from Doha to Paris, flying 2,953 nm in 6 hours and 15 minutes at an average speed of Mach 0.90. For the Savannah to Doha flight, Gulfstream fueled the G700 with a blend of sustainable aviation fuel. Carbon offsets are being applied for both flights.

Kirby Chambliss Named To International Aerobatic Hall Of Fame

Chambliss Has Been A Member Of IAC Since 1986

The International Aerobatic Club has named the recipient of its 2021 IAC Hall of Fame Recipient, awarding Kirby Chambliss the honor. The Hall of Fame was formed in 1986, the same year Chambliss joined the IAC. “I don’t ever remember saying I wanted to be a pilot, I just always wanted to be a pilot,” Chambliss says. HIs backstory is quite interesting, as he began flying at just 13 years old. At 21 he became a corporate pilot and was sent to a 10-hour aerobatic course with Duane Cole to train in a Decathlon. At that point his love of aerobatics became an obsession.

Bristow And Electra Work Together For eSTOL Certification

The Firms Will Collaborate To Market And Develop The Aircraft

Bristow Group and Electra.aero, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to pursue a Joint Development Agreement and Purchase Agreement. The two firms will work together on the technical development, marketing and certification of Electra’s hybrid-electric short take-off and landing aircraft, seeking to collaborate on 50 aircraft. In addition to seeking certification with the FAA, EASA and Transport Canada the two companies also aim to focus on “middle mile” logistics.

Laurent Maroy Will Move Into Operations, International Distribution

Sonaca Aircraft has named Laurent Maroy, 42,  as its new Chief Executive Officer. Laurent Maroy joined Sonaca group in 2013 and has a wide variety of skill sets as he held various positions in national and international levels within the company. In Belgium he worked at Sonaca groups headquarters as Airbus Program Manager before moving to Romania to start up and develop Sonaca Aerospace Transylvania’s business. In the USA, he worked at a subsidiary of Sonaca group called LMI Aerospace as a Business Unit Leader.

NTSB Prelim: Rotorway Exec 162F

Just After The Helicopter Flew Over A Tree Line, He Heard A “Loud Sound” And “Watched The [Rotor] Just Stop

On August 7, 2021, at 1810 eastern daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Rotorway Exec 162F, N162KJ, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident in Argyle, New York. The pilot and passenger were fatally injured. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. A witness located about ½-mile north of the accident site observed the helicopter flying southbound at an estimated altitude of 50-75 ft above the ground. He stated that he believed the helicopter was “having issues, as (it) could not stay up in the air, it was almost like it was bouncing.”
