Sam Watrous Speaks With ANN At Oshkosh

Twenty-five years ago at Sun ‘N Fun, Sam Watrous was sitting with his good buddy and wondering what it would be like to have war replicas as a finished kit. The idea never went anywhere until his son’s senior project at Rhode Island School of Design. “He had to come up with a product, company, marketing research, and pitch to professors,” Watrous says. “He said, ‘Hey dad, how about this ScaleBirds design’ so he came up with everything. Once his professors got the pitch they said he had to finish the concept. It’s been six years in design and dev

New DOI/USFS Aviation Helmets Standard For Air Tractor Aircraft

Models AT-504, AT-602, AT-802, and AT-802A Included

There is a new flight helmet standard in place for pilots of Air Tractor models AT-504, AT-602, AT-802, and AT-802A, which has been recently approved by the FAA. While the FAA does not require a helmet for other Air Tractor models, Air Tractor strongly recommends that pilots of all its aircraft wear an appropriate flight helmet, including helmets tested to the new DOI/USFS standard. In 2017, the OAS determined that while Mil-Spec and DOT aviation helmet specification standards have existed for some time, no government regulatory agencies had provided a civilian aviation helmet specification standard.

Cargojet Fires 23 Canadian Pilots

ALPA, ACPA Not Happy

Cargojet has terminated the employment of twenty three pilots, despite the need for more pilots at that airline. Canada’s two largest pilot groups, ALPA and Air Canada Pilots Association, are not happy with the decision. “It is highly questionable for Cargojet to fire these pilots while they continue to hire,” said Tim Perry, ALPA Canada president. “This is a further troubling tactic used by Cargojet, coming mere weeks after the Company engaged in an effort to coerce its pilots to support its plan to weaken Canada’s new pilot fatigue rules.”
