Airborne 05.06.19: New Shepard Flt, 737 MAX Update, NORAD GA Intercept

Also: National Model Aviation Museum, Piaggio Seeks Submissions, U-Haul PC-24, Non-Pilot Accident

Blue Origin conducted an 11th successful flight of its New Shepard suborbital booster Thursday, launching from the company's west Texas complex and recovering both the booster and capsule about 10 minutes later. The launch went off on schedule about 9:30 CDT in Texas. The apogee of the flight was above ‘Karman Line” -- recognized as the boundary of space. The capsule carried multiple scientific payloads. The FAA could approve a return to service of the 737 MAX in late May or early June, but airlines would still need several weeks to install software updates and retrain pilots. The Ely Air Races, scheduled for June 13-15 in Ely, NV have been cancelled. Airport Manager Lance Gale told the White Pine County Commission that he learned of the pending closure of the airport (KELY) at a special fire commission meeting after the nearest fire station was closed. The FAA reportedly has withdrawn the airport's Part 139 authorization due to the move.
