Airborne 05.15.19: Horten HX-2 to OSH!, TriFan 600 Test, Blue Moon

Horten Aircraft plans to bring its HX-2 flying wing prototype to AirVenture this summer. HORTEN Aircraft GmbH was founded at the end of 2015 by Sven Lindig, Bernhard Mattlener and Hans Heinen. Meanwhile, Flight Design general aviation and Rotorvox are also part of the aviation brand LIFT Air with headquarters located at the Eisenach-Kindel airfield (EDGE). The name "HORTEN Aircraft GmbH" honors the visionary aircraft designer Dr. Ing. Reimar Horten (1915-1994), who is widely regarded as a pioneer in the field of flying wings. Los Angeles County Public Works, in partnership with Tomorrow's Aeronautical Museum, welcomed the nation’s first commercial electric aircraft charging station at Compton/Woodley Airport (KCPM). The Pipistrel SkyCharge docking station will support the museum’s two ALPHA Electro Light Sport all-electric aircraft and ultimately other electric aircraft in the future as electric aircraft gain interest. The SkyCharge docking station allows two aircraft to simultaneously charge an empty battery in 45 minutes.

The FAA has awarded an STC to Avidyne Corporation for the R10.2.3.1 software for the IFD Series. Among the new features and product improvements included with R10.2.3.1 is Avidyne’s innovative GPS Legacy Avionics Support (GLAS) option, which allows the IFD Series to interface with existing Pro Line 21 EFIS systems to provide flight director and autopilot coupling of SBAS/LPV approaches, while eliminating the need for more costly OEM display hardware and software upgrades.

The instruction manual that guided Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to a successful landing on the moon is set to be auctioned by Christies as part of a larger sale celebrating space exploration and the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11. The manual was reportedly on board the Eagle lunar lander right between Armstrong and Aldrin as Armstrong reported, "Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed." Just after landing, Aldrin wrote the coordinates of the lander on page 10 of the book, the first off-world writing by a human. Agel
