ANN's 'Heroes And Heartbreakers' of 2007: Scaled Composites, One and ALL (#7)

From the Hero's List... #7: Scaled Composites, One and ALL

Burt Rutan and his troops have undertaken the 'improbable' and turned it into recorded history. Burt and his troops have taken the 'nearly impossible' and made it look (dare I say it?) 'easy.' 2007 was the year that Burt and the folks at Scaled Composites found out that every revolution oft requires a price be paid for the challenges you undertake. This year, despite incredible safety measures, and a nearly flawless record, Scaled Composites found out how costly their dreams can be.

ANN's 'Heroes And Heartbreakers' of 2007: Eclipse Aviation's Vern Raburn (#8)

From the Hero's List... #8: Eclipse Aviation's Vern Raburn

Having Vern on this list is likely to earn me as much hate mail as praise... and for (pretty much) all the same reasons. Still; I truly believe that this guy demands a prominent spot on the heroes list.Yeah, I know all the nay-sayers will talk about busted schedules, the rumors of financial problems (more from hope than actual evidence, we think), and dozens of other issues, but the fact of the matter is that Raburn and the Eclipse troops have pushed the entire industry to react, and adapt, to the challenges he has put before a biz that was so mired in the same old BS, that many honestly feared (at times) the business would sink out of sight and no one would notice.

'Ready For Your Close-up? Might YOU Be One Of The Faces Of Aero-TV?

Help Shape The Future of Aviation News!

ANN has been enormously gratified by the response to our sneak-peek at Aero-TV and with the first debut of SCHEDULED programming coming up (WAY TOO) quickly, it's time to fill in some more staffing requirements (oh, my aching payroll...). Mind you, what you've seen so far is a TINY fraction of what we have in our action plan -- not even the tip of the iceberg -- but apparently it was enough of a start for thousands of you to let us know that YOU want your Aero-TV! FMI: I Want To Be One Of The Faces Of Aero-TV!

ANN's 'Heroes And Heartbreakers' of 2007: Cessna Boss, Jack Pelton (#9)

From the Hero's List... #8: Cessna Boss, Jack Pelton

Over the last few years I've humorously asked the question, "what in the heck are they putting in the drinking water in Wichita, Kansas these days?" The reason for such an inquiry is the aggressive (and dare say) nonconformist behavior of Cessna's CEO, Jack Pelton. Cessna has been known as a bastion of solid conservative aviation business for quite a few years, and under the legendary leadership of folks like Russ Myers, it often seemed as if Cessna could do no wrong (and for many years, it didn't)... though real change came about at a slower than desired pace.

ANN's 'Heroes And Heartbreakers' of 2007: Alternative Fuels/Powerplants (#10)

From the Hero's List... #9: Alternative Fuels/Powerplants

AvGas is lovely stuff... but it's getting more expensive by the day -- and there are rumors that its availability may soon be endangered by any number of unseemly factors. Be that as it may... it's time for a change and the rush to alternative fuels and alternatively fueled powerplants couldn't come fast enough for those of us at ANN. We're happy to say the the alternative fuel revolution is in full swing.

ANN's 'Heroes And Heartbreakers' of 2007: D-Jet/ECJ/TheJet (#11)

From the Hero's List... #11: D-Jet/ECJ/TheJet

Roger Ramjet and George Jetson may soon find themselves with something to be jealous of... as a new generation of exciting GA birds start showing their feathers in the skies over North America -- in the next few years. The dream of being a jet pilot, especially of a jet you own and operate yourself, is about to become a reality for hundreds of pilots who have lined up (so far) for their chance to plunk down at least a million bucks and break free of their piston-powered chains and limitations. Three machines (so far) have shown how intensely intriguing this market segment can be.

ANN's 'Heroes And Heartbreakers' of 2007: P.A.S.S. (#12)

From the Hero's List... #12: P.A.S.S.

It's tough to do your job when so many around you seem to be doing all they can, consciously or otherwise, to keep you from succeeding... we see this as part of the burden that America's PASS members must deal with each and every day. Though not totally blameless for their plight, the fact of the matter is that PASS has been given a tough job to do and seems to have been left deliberately unequipped to do what it must to succeed, due to any number of factors, most of which seem well outside of their control.
