Warns That Runway Collisions Remain A Real Danger

Citing a serious near collision of two jumbo aircraft in Chicago last July, the National Transportation Safety Board, at a public meeting Tuesday, called again for effective action by the FAA to counter the danger posed by potentially catastrophic runway collisions. The Board was reviewing its Most Wanted List of safety improvements, a list that calls for action by federal agencies on the most critical transportation safety issues.

Embraer Hits Ten Million Flight Hours For ERJ-145 Fleet

A Million Hours Per Year In Service

Brazilian planemaker Embraer announced a significant milestone Tuesday for its ERJ-145 regional jet platform. After a decade in service, the worldwide ERJ-145 fleet has reached ten million flight-hours -- with the total number of cycles (take-off and landing procedures) at around 8.5 million.

Is The Tide Turning For Airbus?

It's happened before... after being all-but-locked out of the 2006 sales race to archrival Boeing, Airbus seems to be slowly gaining back ground.

Skybus Airlines, an upcoming low-fare airline based in Columbus, OH, has selected Wingspeed Corporation's XLLink Flight Information Architecture (XFIA) to manage automated paperless operations, voice and messaging on its fleet of Airbus A319 aircraft.

It didn't last long... but that wasn't the point. Early Monday morning, the west Texas spaceport being built by Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos witnessed its first rocket launch, a brief test flight presumbly connected to Bezos' Blue Origin commercial space venture.

Air Force Declassifies Elite Aggressor Program

After decades of secrecy, Air Force officials acknowledged Nov. 13 that Communist-built fighters were flown at the Tonopah Test Range northwest of Las Vegas, Nev. From 1977 through 1988, the program, known as Constant Peg, saw Air Force, Navy and Marine aircrews flying against Soviet-designed MiG fighters as part of a training program where American pilots could better learn how to defeat or evade the Communist bloc's fighters of the day.

LSA-Aero tells ANN that the latest Light Sport airplane has arrived... and its an amphibian, at that. The Colyaer FREEDOM received LSA certification on November 9, 2006 from the Memphis FSDO. The first delivery was made the following week.

There's Still Some Hiring Going On!

The folks at AIR, Inc., tell ANN that airlines hired 697 pilots in October, bringing the year-to-date total to 7,170. The Major carriers had the highest hiring volume in October hiring 265 pilots, followed by the Nationals with 203, and the Non-Jet Operators finished in third hiring 95 pilots for the month.

Kuwaiti Plane Shooed Away From Indian No-Fly Zone

Given all the media attention surrounding planes that have accidentally meandered into no-fly zones over the past several years in the US... it's almost reassuring, in a way, to hear American pilots aren't the only ones that have to deal with the problem.

Carrier Also Switches 777 Order

Boeing confirmed Monday that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines placed several orders earlier this year for a total of six Boeing Next-Generation 737s.

XM WX Satellite Weather graphical weather service has been selected by Horizon Air as the in-flight weather datalink service to its current fleet of 68 aircraft as well as future deliveries. XM WX Satellite Weather will be incorporated into Horizon Air's new Electronic Flight Bag Communication and Data Management System, an electronic information management device that helps flight crews perform flight management tasks more easily and efficiently.

Things could have turned out far worse for an unidentified Canadian man this weekend. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, after accidentally walking into the spinning propeller of a Cessna 150.

Boeing Delivers Five Commercial Jets to TAAG Angola Airlines

This had to be THE trip for Carolyn Corvi... As Boeing's Commercial Airplanes Vice President of Airplane Production, Corvi led a 38-member company delegation on a 16-hour and 47-minute record-setting 777-200ER delivery flight of 8,060 nautical miles from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Seattle that arrived Saturday, Nov. 11, in Luanda, Angola.
