Thales Adopts Skyfire SF2 for Vantis Testing Range

Integration Begins Ahead of Instrument Evaluations

Skyfire Consulting has embarked on a partnership with Thales USA to integrate the Skyfire SF2 into the Vantis, North Dakota UAS test range.

The SF2 offers a payload-agnostic design, enabling comprehensive testing of advanced airspace management tools and air traffic systems in the UAS ops range. Thales already took delivery of some SF2s for testing in warming springtime weather. They expect to make the most of the SF2 to put some of their instrument-based landing systems, traffic avoidance, and obstacle identification to the test. Its adaptability is convenient for that, since Skyfire designed the SF2 to fulfill a wide range of missions in everything from public safety, critical sectors, and medicine. Additionally handy is the fact that the SF2 is entirely made in America, saving companies some of the headaches that tag along with foreign-made drone aircraft and ITAR compliance.

"Skyfire is honored to work with Thales and be an ecosystem partner in Vantis with our in-house designed and manufactured SF2 aircraft, and help contribute to the vital safety of airspace," said Skyfire founder and CEO Matt Sloane.

“Thales is proud to leverage its expertise as a systems integrator, collaborating with industry leaders like Skyfire to deliver comprehensive drone solutions for our customers,” added Sean Roy, UAS operations manager at Thales. “Vantis exemplifies this approach, and Skyfire's innovative aircraft play a key role in our flight-testing efforts.”
