PHI Opens Up The Checkbook For 12 AW189s

Leonardo and PHI have reached an agreement for 12 AW189 Helicopters starting in 2025. These are composed of firm orders as well as purchase options and include an extensive support partnership featuring a service center agreement, MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) agreement, and training solutions for the AW139 and AW189 models. “Today marks another significant milestone in our longstanding partnership with Leonardo,” said Scott McCarty, CEO of PHI Group.

DOT Fines Volaris $300,000 

DOT has fined Volaris Airlines $300,000 for violating federal statutes and the Department’s rule prohibiting tarmac delays of four hours or more on international flights without providing passengers an opportunity to deplane. The airline was also ordered to cease and desist from future similar violations. “If an airline passenger is stranded on the tarmac for hours on end, they have the right to disembark from the plane—and we’re making sure airlines give passengers that opportunity,” said DOT. “This enforcement action reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting consumers and holding airlines accountable.”

Shortly After Takeoff, The Airplane’s Honda J35A6 Engine Lost Power And The Pilot Performed A Forced Landing

On May 12, 2024, about 1837 eastern daylight time, a Titan T-51 airplane, N260Y, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Novi, Michigan. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operated under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. According to preliminary information, the pilot departed from the Canton-Plymouth-Mettetal Airport (1D2), Plymouth, Michigan, on a local flight. Shortly after takeoff, the airplane’s Honda J35A6 engine lost power and the pilot performed a forced landing.

Cicaré Helicopters displayed the SVH4 single-seat simulator training device at HAI 2017 in Dallas this year. Mike Creed, CEO, DEA General Aviation (USA/China) for Cicaré Helicopters, told Aero-News CEO and editor in chief Jim Campbell that the SVH-4 can be used by student pilots for up to 10 hours credit towards their FAA Private Pilot certificate. Creed said that the ground-based SVH-4 can revolutionize helicopter training, and DEA General Aviation has purchased 48 of the devices for use in the U.S. market. He said that the primary market is for training pilots in the experimental helicopter market, which is the fastest-growing segment in the world of helicopters.
